Understanding Jewellery and Diamond Purchases at Canada Gold - Hamilton
At Hamilton Gold, our goal is to provide clear and transparent information so customers know exactly how we evaluate and purchase items. Below are some important points that help explain our process and protect both our team and our customers.
East Indian Jewelry (19.5 Karat)
Many customers bring in pieces that are stamped as 22 karat gold. However, through years of experience and testing, we know that these pieces often measure closer to what is known as 19.5 karat, this equates to 81.25% gold content. It is especially common for jewellery originating from India, Pakistan and surrounding regions. While the stamp may indicate 22k, our own testing always takes priority to determine the true gold content. This ensures accurate pricing and a fair evaluation for every customer. We want to be upfront about this reality so there are no surprises during your visit.
Diamond Purchasing Criteria
We also maintain clear criteria when purchasing diamonds. For a stone to be considered, it must meet the following conditions:
- A minimum size of 0.4 carat
- Natural, not lab-grown
- Free from artificial colouring
These standards are in place so we can guarantee the authenticity and quality of diamonds we purchase.
Market Conditions and Diamond Appraisals
Due to current shifts in the diamond market, we have updated our approach. Diamonds that are 0.40 carats and larger will now be individually appraised. This change reflects the reality of today’s market and helps us maintain consistency, fairness, and accuracy in valuations. By setting this clear benchmark, we ensure both our staff and our customers understand exactly how each diamond will be handled.
Premium Jewellery Purchases
We are also expanding our purchasing to include premium jewelry, building on recent success in Ottawa. This program creates opportunities for our team to handle a wider variety of pieces and provide even more value to customers.
By outlining these standards on our website, we ensure a transparent process that benefits everyone.
