A Transparent Step-by-Step Guide
Selling gold for the first time can feel uncertain. Many people walk into our stores wondering what the process will be like, how their jewellery will be evaluated and whether they are getting a fair price.
At Canada Gold, transparency and education are central to how we work. Our goal is to make sure every customer understands exactly what is happening at each step.
Here is what you can expect when you visit.
Step 1: A Friendly Welcome
When you arrive at a Canada Gold store, a Precious Metals Analyst will greet you and ask what items you have brought in. Many customers bring jewellery they no longer wear, inherited pieces, broken chains, old coins or small collections of precious metals.
There is no appointment required and no obligation to sell. We are happy to take a look and answer questions.
Step 2: Sorting and Initial Assessment
The first step is sorting the items you brought. Gold jewellery may include different purities such as 10 karat, 14 karat or 18 karat gold. Coins and bullion products may be evaluated separately because they are priced differently.
Each item is weighed and grouped according to metal type and purity.
Our team will explain what we are seeing and how the process works so you understand how your items are being evaluated.
Step 3: Testing Precious Metals
To verify the metal content of jewellery and other items, we use several professional testing methods.
These can include XRF analysis, density testing and resistivity testing. These technologies allow us to determine the metal composition without damaging the item.
Customers can watch this process and ask questions at any time.
Step 4: Calculating the Value
Once the metal content and weight are confirmed, we calculate the value based on the current market price of the metal.
Gold, silver and platinum prices change daily. The offer you receive reflects the metal value at that time.
If an item has collectible value or unique characteristics, that may also be considered separately.
Our team will explain how the price is calculated so you understand how we arrived at the offer.
Step 5: Receiving Your Offer
After the evaluation is complete, you will receive a clear offer for your items.
You are welcome to take time to consider the offer or ask questions. There is never pressure to sell.
Many customers appreciate having the information, even if they choose to return later.
Step 6: Immediate Payment
If you decide to accept the offer, payment is processed immediately.
Depending on the transaction and local regulations, payment may be provided by cash, cheque or other approved methods.
The entire process is designed to be efficient and straightforward.
A Process Built on Trust
Selling precious metals should never feel confusing or rushed. At Canada Gold, we believe customers deserve clear information, professional service and fair pricing.
